canadiansoldiers.com is a comprehensive source regarding the organization, vehicles, weapons, uniforms, traditions, and insignia of Canadian soldiers in the 20th Century. Over 6,700 images on 1,000+ pages dealing with history, equipment, literature and more are presented here for students of history, re-enactors, modellers, gamers, serious researchers and anyone interested in the Canadian Army between 1900 and 2000. Serious contributions to site content, such as information, photos, or anecdotes, are welcomed and will be fully credited. This site is proud to be a member of the small but growing community of those interested in this diverse and important subject area. The webmaster regrets that he cannot enter into correspondence on the matter of purchasing books or badges mentioned on the site. The list is meant as a reference, not as a catalogue, and the webmaster is not a dealer in militaria. This site is meant as a reference, not a commercial enterprise. As of 1 May 2007, content for this site was scattered across three separate formats. The original frames site has had its content removed, and is slowly being reconstructed. On 1 January 2006, a new format based on the Mediawiki software was established; this format proved unpopular and drained resources. As of 1 January 2006, canadiansoldiers.com was host to 6,732 separate images on 545 separate information pages, with a considerable backlog of information by contributors not yet uploaded. On 1 May 2007 the page count of just the new wiki style site was 1,027, with 4,546 images. On 1 October 2007, the site returned to the standard HTML-based format you see now, in cleaner, brighter layout with coloured title bar and improved menu placement. This process was completed in April 2008 at which time the old wiki style pages were deleted and content put into storage until such time as it can be reformatted. Some pages will be difficult to view during this process. We thank you again for your generosity and patience as we move this content to the new format. In the meantime, as we are working on finalizing the porting over of content to this new site configuration. |
