United Nations Mission in Haiti

The United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) was a United Nations peacekeeping mission conducted from Sep 1993 to Jun 1996.

Mandate

The United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) (Sep 1993-Jun 1996). UNMIH was established under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 940 (1994) to maintain a secure and stable environment, to protect international personnel and key installations, to create and train a Haitian National police force, and to provide electoral support.

Canadian Military Involvement

Canada provided up to 500 military personnel and approximately 100 civilian police at any given time to UNMIH between October 1994 and June 1996 (Operation PIVOT).

Insignia

One single medal/ribbon combination was given for the various Haiti missions. The colour combination for the ribbon consisted of the royal blue and red of the Republic of Haiti, bordered by the UN blue with two white lines denoting friendship between the two.
