The 227th
Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force was a unit
raised for service in the First World War.
History
The 227th Battalion, CEF was
raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The unit
recruited in Military District 2 (Sudbury/Manitoulin/Algoma)
and personnel were drawn in part from the 51st Regiment, Soo
Rifles. The unit was perpetuated by that regiment, which
after the war became The Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury
Regiment, which converted to artillery in 1946.1
According to Stewart, the unit's designation was "Men of the
North" and the battalion had both a brass and a bugle band..2 |
