102nd Regiment, Rocky Mountain Rangers
The regiment was authorized on 1 April 1908, and formed by amalgamating a new infantry company with three independent companies of "Rocky Mountain Rangers" previously formed in 1898.1 The regiment was redesignated the 102nd Regiment, Rocky Mountain Rangers in 1909. On 10 August 1914, the regiment was placed on active service in British Columbia. The regiment contributed men to the 7th Battalion, C.E.F. on its formation in September 1914 and later recruited for the 172nd Battalion, C.E.F., which provided reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field. Soldiers of the regiment staffed internment camps and guarded bridges in the interior of B.C. During the Otter Commission reorganizations, the numerical designation "102nd Regiment" was dropped, and the regiment became known simply as The Rocky Mountain Rangers.
