Supplementary Order of Battle

The Supplementary Order of Battle was established as part of the implementation of the Suttie Commission recommendations in 1964-1965. This Commission was established to examine the Militia in order to make it more efficient and effective. The Commission recommended a reduction in the number of units. Without wishing to invoke the word "disbandment", or the notion of amalgamation, the Supplementary Order of Battle was created as an alternative. Units added to the list were reduced to nil strength but not disbanded, thus preserving their Battle Honours and lineage in the event of reactivation.

The following list of infantry and armoured regiments was provided by Alex Fitzpatrick. Units of other branches were also named to the Supplementary Order of Battle but to date a complete listing has not been researched. The following are only those units for which a definite written authority exists; other units have been inactivated since 1964 and may belong on this list as well, but no authority has been found for these.
