The 255th
Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force was a unit
raised for service in the First World War.
History
The 255th Battalion, CEF was
raised in Toronto, Ontario. The unit received drafts of men
from the 2nd Regiment, Queen's Own Rifles, which resulted in
the unit being perpetuated by that regiment (after the war,
the 2nd Regiment. Queen's Own Rifles became The Queen's Own
Rifles of Canada). The unit recruited in
Military District 2 (Toronto).1
Stewart lists the unit as being affiliated with the 3rd,
83rd, 95th, 166th, and 198th Battalions, which are also
perpetuated by The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, and
suffixes the battalion name with "Queen's Own Rifles".2 |
