Canadian Mounted Rifles

On 1 Jan, the Canadian Mounted Rifles were raised as independent squadrons throughout Canada, patterned after the Canadian Mounted Rifles units raised for the Boer War.

• "A" Squadron was raised 1 Jan 1901, and transferred on 1 Jul to the Permanent Force. Transferred 1 Jul 1901 to Permanent Force as Canadian Mounted Rifles.
• "B" Squadron raised at Portage La Prairie, MB, redesignated on 1 Jun from "B" Troop, Manitoba Dragoons
• "C" Squadron, raised 1901.
• "D: Squadron, raised 1901.
• "E" Squadron, raised 1901.
• "F" Squadron, raised 1901.
• "G" Squadron, raised 1901 at Calgary, AB.
• "H" Squadron, raised 1901 at Fort Macleod, AB.
• "I" Squadron, raised 1901 at Medicine Hat, AB.
• "J" and "K" Squadrons raised 1901; both were regimented 1 Apr to form Toronto Mounted Rifles.
