Insignia
Mazes illustrates two patters of cap badge
for the 4th Hussars, noting approval of the pattern by General Order
37 of 1910, with mirrored collar badges (with horses looking inwards
when placed on the uniform). Officers badges were larger than other
ranks' badges, and the collar badges were miniature versions of the
cap badge. Shoulder badges consisted simply of an Arabic numeral
"4".
Other Ranks' collar badge
When the suffix "of Canada" was added to
the regimental designation, the pattern of the badge changed,
notably the scroll but also the horse went from a side view to a
forward-facing image. The new design was approved by General Order
31 of 1931 and was a bit-metal design. Collar badges replaced the
horse with a Roman numeral IV. A new shoulder badge design was also
approved consisting of two curved arcs reading IV / HUSSARS.
