United Nations Observer Mission Uganda-Rwanda

United Nations Observer Mission Uganda-Rwanda (UNOMUR) was a United Nations observer mission involving Canadians.

UN Mandate

UNOMUR was established on 22 Jun 1993 under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 846 with the mandate to monitor the Uganda/Rwanda border from the Ugandan side to verify that no transit or transport of lethal weapons and ammunition occurred by road or vehicle tracks. Upon completion of the task, the Mission was terminated in Oct 1994.

Canadian Military Involvement

Canada provided three UN Military Observers between Jun and Oct 1993.

Insignia

180 days of service were needed to qualify for the UNOMUR Medal. The ribbon consisted of a central wide band of UN blue flanked by two narrow stripes of white representing Peace, and three stripes of black, gold and red, representing the Ugandan flag.
