United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti

The United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti (UNTMIH) was a peacekeeping mission conducted from Aug to Nov 1997.

Mandate

This mission was established under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1123 (1997) to contribute to the professionalization of the Haitian National Police and to ensure the safety and freedom of movement of UN personnel. UNTMIH was the final mission in Haiti with a military component.

Canadian Military Participation

Canada contributed up to 650 military personnel to UNTMIH for the duration of the mission (Operation CONSTABLE).

Insignia

One single medal/ribbon combination was given for the various Haiti missions. The colour combination for the ribbon consisted of the royal blue and red of the Republic of Haiti, bordered by the UN blue with two white lines denoting friendship between the two.
